Prime penetrates the surface of the prepared base work, making it water-resistant and creating a bond between the base and spray seal or asphalt.
Site preparation is a critical step in any new surfacing project and Prime Spray Services can provide advice and support for this first phase of your project.
Step 1: Prepare the Base
Spray seal and asphalt treatments are only as good as the base they are applied to. As Spray Seal has little or no structural stability it is of vital importance that the base work be of high quality.
Ensuring the road base work is smooth and evenly compacted is critical to achieving a quality finish. The sprayed application will follow the same lines as the base, so any existing undulations in the base will carry through to the finished surface.
Step 2: Prime
Following the base preparation, a prime is then applied which creates a bond with the spray seal or asphalt surface. Prime is a thin liquid spray that works to make the base water-resistant. Depending on the surface you have, we will either use Emulprime that is a water-based product, or AMC00H that is a kerosene-based product.
Prime can also be used as short term and temporary dust suppressant and temporary waterproofing.
